Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 September 2026
The short version: MySimpleBackup copies your photos from your iPhone or iPad to a folder you choose on your Mac. Your photos, videos and photo library information never leave your Mac, and we never see them. The only personal data involved is what’s needed to sell and license the app: your email address and your licence or trial key, which our reseller Polar holds for us.
Who we are
MySimpleBackup is made by Blank Atlas Limited (“we”, “us”), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16651390), registered office 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. We are responsible for the personal data described in this policy. You can contact us at support@blankatlassoftware.com.
The MySimpleBackup app
- Your photos and videos are read from your device over the USB cable and written only to the folder you choose. They are not uploaded anywhere.
- Your photo library information (album names, dates and similar) is read from a copy of your device’s photo database that the app keeps on your Mac, in your user Caches folder. It is used only to organise your backup and never leaves your Mac.
- The backup record (a hidden file named
.mysimplebackup-manifest.sqlite) is saved inside your backup folder. It lists which photos have been copied, so later backups only add new ones. - Your licence is stored in your Mac’s keychain, together with how much of the free trial this Mac has used.
- Licence checks. When you activate a licence or trial key, the app sends the key and a random name for your Mac (such as “Mac 7F3A2C”, not your Mac’s real name) to Polar, our licensing provider. It checks the key with Polar again about once a week, and when you deactivate it. These requests don’t include your email address or anything about your photos.
- Update checks. About once a day, and when you choose Check for Updates, the app downloads a small file from downloads.mysimplebackup.com to see if there’s a new version. Like any download, this shows your IP address and the app’s version to our hosting provider.
- No analytics or tracking. The app doesn’t collect usage statistics, crash reports or advertising identifiers.
This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking scripts. To show the current price, pages that mention it ask Polar for it, and ask our hosting provider which country you’re in (worked out from your IP address) so the price is in your currency. We don’t store that country. When you click “Buy now” or “Try it free”, the page opens Polar’s checkout, which handles your details under Polar’s own privacy policy. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) for a short time, to keep the site and downloads secure and working.
Free trial and purchases
Both the free trial and purchases go through Polar, our reseller and merchant of record. For the trial, Polar asks for your email address. For a purchase, it also collects what’s needed to take payment, such as your name, billing country and payment details, and it handles sales tax and VAT and issues your receipt. We never see your full card details. Polar emails you your key and shares your email address, order details and key with us so we can provide your licence and help you.
We use your email address only to provide your trial or licence and to help you with it. We don’t send marketing emails.
Your email address and key are kept in Polar for as long as your trial or licence key exists, so you can use it and get help with it. Polar also keeps order records for as long as tax and accounting law requires. You can ask us to delete your details at any time; we’ll delete them from Polar, apart from records the law requires to be kept. Deleting them may stop your key from working.
Support emails
If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply and help you, and we keep them only as long as we need them for that.
Who else handles your data
- Polar Software, Inc. (United States): checkout, payments, licence keys and licence checks.
- Cloudflare, Inc.: hosting for this website and the app downloads.
Both may process data outside the UK and the EU. They do so under their own data protection terms, which provide the safeguards UK and EU law require for international transfers. We don’t sell your data or share it with anyone else, unless the law requires us to.
Legal basis (UK and EU GDPR)
- Performing our contract with you: providing your trial or licence, checking your licence and helping you when you contact us.
- Legitimate interests: keeping this website, the downloads and licensing secure and working, and preventing misuse of trials and licences.
- Legal obligations: keeping sales and tax records, which Polar holds.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your personal data, and ask us to correct or delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or transfer it to you. Email support@blankatlassoftware.com. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.
Children
MySimpleBackup is not aimed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
