Terms & Licence
Last updated: 25 September 2026
These terms cover buying and using MySimpleBackup. By buying or using the app, you agree to them. They don't affect your legal rights as a consumer.
1. Who sells MySimpleBackup
MySimpleBackup is made by Blank Atlas Limited. Orders are processed by our online reseller, which acts as the merchant of record for your purchase. The reseller's terms of sale also apply to the payment itself.
2. Your licence
When you buy MySimpleBackup, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use it, forever, on one Mac that you own or control. You can move your licence to a different Mac by deactivating it on the old one.
MySimpleBackup is released in editions named by year, such as MySimpleBackup 2026. Your licence is for the edition you buy, and includes all updates to that edition, including updates to support new versions of iOS and iPadOS. We may release new editions with new features. A new edition may be a free or paid upgrade, and we'll say which when it's released. Your licence to the edition you bought never expires.
You may not:
- sell, rent, share or give away your licence key;
- copy, modify or reverse-engineer the app, except where the law allows it or an open-source licence gives you that right (see Open-Source Notices);
- use the app to access a device or photos you don't have the right to access.
3. Free trial
The free trial lets you back up up to 100 photos and videos in total on one Mac, with all features. A Live Photo, together with its video and any edited version, counts as one. You need to give an email address to get the trial. It is for trying MySimpleBackup before you buy. Please don't use multiple email addresses or other workarounds to get more free backups.
4. Cancellation and refunds
When you buy, you ask for your licence to be supplied straight away. Your 14-day right to cancel ends once you activate the licence on a Mac. Before you activate it, you can cancel within 14 days for a full refund. Our Refund Policy explains when else we refund, including if the app is faulty.
5. What the app does and doesn't do
MySimpleBackup reads photos and videos from a connected iPhone or iPad and copies them to a folder you choose. It never changes or deletes anything on your device, and never overwrites or deletes anything already in your backup folder.
Only photos stored on the device can be copied. Photos kept only in iCloud (for example with “Optimise iPhone Storage”) can't be backed up until they are downloaded to the device.
6. Compatibility
The system requirements and tested iOS and iPadOS versions are listed on our website. Apple may change iOS, iPadOS or macOS in ways that affect the app. We aim to release compatibility updates, but can't guarantee that every future version of Apple's software will be supported.
7. Your rights and our responsibility
If you are a consumer, you have legal rights in relation to digital content that is faulty or not as described. In the UK, these come from the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Nothing in these terms reduces those rights.
Apart from those rights, the app is provided “as is”. We're not responsible for losses that weren't reasonably foreseeable, or for business losses. Our total responsibility to you for anything relating to the app is limited to the price you paid, unless the law doesn't allow us to limit it (for example for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).
No backup method is perfect. We recommend keeping more than one copy of photos that matter to you.
8. Ending your licence
If you seriously break these terms (for example by sharing your licence key publicly), we may deactivate your licence. You can stop using the app at any time.
9. Trademarks
iPhone, iPad, Mac, macOS, Live Photos and iCloud are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. MySimpleBackup is not affiliated with or endorsed by Apple Inc.
10. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep the protection of the laws of the country where you live, and you can bring claims there.
